Our Favourite Lip Colors For The New Season, Inspired By The Runway
It’s time to turn to the darker side of the palette. Well, almost.
In the beauty side of things, seasons don’t mean weather, seasons mean colour. Pastels for spring, pales and whites for summer, and deep, dark hues for fall and winter. It’s true for lip colours as it is for clothing.
But don’t go binge buying burgundys and wines for your pout yet. Trends on the runway took a surprising turn this season. This fall, you’ll find nudes and pinks are sitting on the shelves alongside the traditional oxbloods, plums and reds.
We decode the runway trends for lip colours for AW’15 not just from India, but from around the fashion meccas of the world. Take note.
Nudes
Natural pouts ruled the Indian autumn/winter runways in Delhi and Mumbai. Tarun Tahiliani, Neeta Lulla, Monisha Jaising, Arpita Mehta, Ridhi Mehra all ODed on nude lip colour, with soft, barely-there tints of pink and orange, topped with sheer gloss. If there is one lip trend you follow this season, this is it. Nude, glossy lips transition seamlessly from day to night.
Burgundy
Wine coloured lips are a head-turner. A universally flattering shade for all skin tones, burgundy lips exude oomph, class and power. Kareena Kapoor, the showstopper at Gaurav Gupta’s LFW fall 2015 show, wearing burgundy on the lips had us swooning in the audience. Fuchsia
Fuschia is the magic color that brightens and suits most Indian skin tones. The models at Masaba Gupta’s fall show walked out with pouts in a spectrum of pinks, as did the models at Dolce and Gabbana’s show. Punchy magenta and maroons are also reliable, tested options in the pink palette. Embrace vivid, vibrant, solid, and even soft pinks, we’d say, specially for the upcoming sweater season.
Burnt sienna
Not pop orange. Think burnt orange. Rusty orange lips, seen at Manish Arora, complement most warm skin tones. Dab a little sheer gloss on the centre of the lips, and peach blush on the cheeks, to banish away winter blues. This colour is earthy, and near natural.
Brick red
While the blood red lip is a true classic, make-up artists seemed tired of it this time on the runways. Making way for a new crimson shade to take centre-stage—brick red. Spotted at Naeem Khan’s fall 2015 show, it is definitely the more enigmatic, subtle-sexy cousin of the classic red. This hue has warm, orange-brown undertones, and looks stunning on olive-skinned girls. Keep the eyes extremely minimal when wearing brick red on the mouth.
Plum
Berry stained lips make for a luxurious, yet sophisticated statement. Muted-grape shades worn in opaque look good with defined eyebrows and glowing, dewy skin. Deep, rich plum looks amazing on darker skin tones, and a bright plum, on fairer complexions.
