Bad Habits That Ruin Your Skin
Here are some surprising ways you could be causing damage to your skin.
Talking on the phone
The bacteria on your phone screen can cause acne on your cheek and around your jaw line. Keep your phone screen clean with anti-bacterial wipes and use the speaker or headphones whenever you can.
Sleeping with your makeup on
Makeup clogs your pores overnight leading to breakouts and inflammation. Sleeping with mascara on can cause your eyelashes to fall out.
Wearing dirty glasses/sunglasses
The dirt on the bridge of your glasses or sunglasses can cause acne on your nose.
Wearing too much makeup everyday
Your skin needs to breathe too! Wearing layers of foundation cream everyday can clog pores and irritate your skin.
Staying in the AC all day
This can dehydrate your skin, stripping it of the humidity and moisture it needs.
Stressing out too much
Stress causes an increase in the hormone cortisol which can cause collagen breakdown, making your skin dull and prone to wrinkles. Stress hormones can also lead to acne. Combat stress by doing yoga or doing an activity you love.
Not getting enough sleep
Not only does this worsen the effects of stress, it also makes your skin dull and pale and causes dark under-eye circles.
Eating too much salt and sugar
Too much salt can dehydrate your skin. Use spices to add flavour to your food instead. Eating excess sugar can break down the collagen in your skin and make it sag, along with worsening skin conditions like acne.
Skipping meals
Depriving your body of essential nutrients is never a good idea. Your skin needs vitamins A, B3, C and E. Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and drink enough water. Don’t skimp on the protein either!
Showering with boiling hot water
Hot water can strip the outer layer of your skin and make it dry and flaky. Try sticking to cold or lukewarm water.
Avoid these skin stressors and give your skin some love and care!
