Coconut oil, cleansing balms, makeup remover wipes, micellar water, cleansing oils- there are plenty of wonderful makeup-removing products out there. However, the most popular ones in the market are cleansing balms and micellar water. I have both of these products, and I can tell you that they have more differences than similarities. While do they both remove makeup, they vary in formulations, pricing, and texture. If you're curious to find out which makeup remover is better, you must first understand them as individual products.

What Is A Cleansing Balm?

Cleansing balms come in a variety of textures- wax, solid, buttery, or creams. Once they come in contact with your skin, they melt into oil and break down heavy makeup. Using your fingers, you have to massage and spread the product all over your face.

What Is Micellar Water?

Micellar water contains a soap-like compound called micelles. Think of it as a basic version of a cleanser. Apart from makeup, it helps to remove sweat, dirt, grime, oil, and dead skin from the skin's surface. Most micellar water products do not contain oil but help to cleanse your pores from it. They are lighter on the skin and are usually non-comedogenic in nature. They're great products for people with dry and sensitive skin because they're gentle on the skin.

Which Is Better- Cleansing Balm Or Micellar Water?

Which is better, you ask? It depends on your purpose. Cleansing balms remove heavy makeup, and micellar water helps to remove minimal makeup. If you use micellar water to remove heavy makeup, there will be lots of rubbing and tugging involved and we don't want that. On the contrary, cleansing balms are good at removing heavy makeup, but if not washed off well, they can clog your pores. They're also more expensive than micellar water because they do more work at breaking down complex makeup formulas. If you're someone who hardly wears any makeup, a bottle of micellar water should be good enough.

Note: Even after using micellar water or a cleansing balm to remove your makeup, you still have to wash your face with lukewarm water and a cleanser. A gentle cleanser will help to get rid of any product residue without drying out the skin. For baby-soft skin, pick a cleanser that's enriched with rosehip oil and vitamins (the one we've recommended below ticks all the boxes).

Which makeup-removing product are you gravitating more towards- cleansing balm or micellar water? We would love to know!
