How To Make Kajal Using A Diya

An amazing way to make smudge-proof kajal at home is by using a diya. Believe it or not but this method has been around for many years and you can totally call up your grandma and we bet she can guide you better than we can!

You’ll need:

• Diya
• A steel plate
• Two bowls
• Castor oil

Steps to Make Kajal Using A Diya

Step 1: Put a cotton wick inside the diya and light it up.

Step 2: Next, place both your bowls on either side of it.

Step 3: Apply a few drops of castor oil on the steel plate and then place it on the top of both the bowls.

Step 4: You’ll notice that the plate will start to heat within a matter of minutes. Allow that for over 30 mins.

Step 4: The castor oil will burn and in place of it, soot would be collected. Scarpe it off.

Step 5: Allow the soot to cool down before applying. You can also add a drop or two of castor oil to make it liquidy and then store it in a container.

You’ll Need:

• Copper lamp
• Two bowls
• A copper plate
• Castor oil

Steps to Make Kajal Using Copper Lamp

Step 1: The first step is to fill the lamp with castor oil and then dip a cotton wick into it and light it up.

Step 2: Just like the previous method, place the bowl on either side and then place the copper plate on top of them. Always place the plate upside down as the soot needs to be collected.

Step 3: This method will take a lot of your time so it's better if you do it at night while the lamp creates an organic, at-home kajal for you.

Step 4: In the morning, remove the plate using a tong. Scrape out the collected soot in a tiny container.

- Diya

- Handful of almonds

- Almond oil

- Two bowls

Steps to make kajal using almonds

Step 1: Put oil in the diya, add the cotton wick and light it.

Step 2: As mentioned earlier, place the bowl on either side of it. 

Step 3: Using the bowls as a stand, place the plate on top of them. Make sure the flame is touching the plate.

Step 4: Place an almond in the centre of the plate and let it burn for about three minutes.

Step 4: Repeat this step with every almond. Let them burn for about 3 minutes and then replace it with a new one. You’ll notice that when it’s burning, it’ll release oil and then turn to soot.

Step 5: Once all your almonds are burnt, allow them to cool and then collect in a box.

How to Make Kajal Using Ajwain Seeds

Yes, you can make kajal at home using ajwain seeds too!

You’ll Need:

• Muslin cloth
• Sandalwood paste
• 3-4 ajwain seeds
• A copper plate
• Copper lamp
• 2 bowls
• Castor oil

Steps to Make Kajal Using Ajwain Seeds

Step 1: Dip the muslin cloth in sandalwood paste and let it dry.

Step 2: Just like always, fill the copper lamp with castor oil and place the bowls on either side.

Step 3: Put the ajwain seeds in the sandalwood-clad muslin cloth and roll it to form a wick.

Step 4: You can also use a thread to tie it properly. Now, time to light it.

Step 5: Make sure you place the plate on top for the soot to be collected.
